Political prisoner Vladimir Osipov has died in a pre-trial detention center, according to the Telegram channel Prison Lawyer and RusNews. According to the outlet, news of his death came from the detention center in Ukhta, where the 56-year-old convict had recently been transferred from the Moscow region.
In November last year, Osipov was sentenced to 6.5 years in a penal colony in a case involving so-called “military fakes.” The prosecution was based on posts published on the social network Odnoklassniki. According to the investigation, he accused Vladimir Putin of organizing the explosion on the Crimean Bridge and claimed that Russian soldiers had “killed children in Donbas.”
At one of the hearings, Osipov asked for his final statement to be postponed because of his condition, complaining of high blood pressure. However, Judge Yulia Terekhova denied the request. Earlier, during the consideration of the case on the merits, an ambulance had been called for him several times.
The Moscow region resident was detained in November 2024. His relatives claimed that security forces beat him during the search and that the investigator forced his family members to give testimony.
