Drones attacked Moscow region for the third time in a month

On the night of July 28, an “enemy drone” tried to strike Moscow, it was shot down by Defense Ministry forces, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said. According to him, there were no casualties or damage. Sobyanin did not specify where the attack took place and what was its target.

Later, the Defense Ministry reported the drone attack “on objects on the territory of the Moscow region”, blaming it on Ukraine. The ministry noted that the drone was destroyed by air defense, there were no injuries or damage. It also did not specify which objects the drone was trying to hit.

This is already the third attack of the Moscow region in a month. On July 24, Sobyanin reported the attack of two drones: one of them crashed into a high-rise building on Likhachev Avenue near the Defense Ministry’s headquarters, while the second one fell on Komsomolsky Avenue, opposite the Prince Aleksandr Nevsky Military University and the GRU cyberattack headquarters, where, according to investigative journalists, the hacker group FancyBear is based.

It is noteworthy that earlier a Pantsir-S1 SAM system was installed on the roof of the Defense Ministry headquarters on Frunzenskaya Embankment, but it failed to shoot down the drone that flew by, Radio Liberty noted.

The drone attack on Moscow on the night of July 24 was a special operation by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing sources in the security and defense sector. Kyiv did not officially confirm its involvement in it.

Later the same day, another drone was found in the village of Pervomayskoye in New Moscow. Despite this, the Kremlin said it was not going to issue additional orders to strengthen the defense of the capital and the region. “Everyone involved in ensuring the security of our regions, they are all on alert. Everyone is taking measures”, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured.

Before that, Russian authorities reported a drone attack on the capital on July 4 – we were talking about four devices that were shot down on approach. One of them fell on the territory of Odintsovo district of Moscow region.
