Measles cases have already been recorded in 44 regions of Russia

On April 20, Anna Popova, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, reported on the increase in the incidence of measles, answering questions from journalists in Saratov, RIA Novosti reported.
Popova said: “The epidemiological situation with measles in Russia today is complicated, but we prepared the whole country and prepared the subjects, so measles, which is now registered in 44 subjects, is limited to local foci, which can be stopped very quickly”. Popova assured that the introduction of restrictive measures is not yet required – only local quarantine restrictions are sufficient.
Vaccination is the main method of combating the spread of measles. Unvaccinated people fall ill most often. This year, the authorities want to hold a “clean-up vaccination” against measles for Russians.
As DNCOM Labs wrote, reports of measles outbreaks began appearing in different parts of Russia in early 2023. In January, an unfavorable measles situation was reported in the Novosibirsk region, in February several cases of imported disease from Tajikistan were detected in Yekaterinburg, and in March, a hospital in Ufa was quarantined because of a measles outbreak.
The infection has also reached the capital: recently, students from two universities, MAI and MISIS, were moved to distance learning, and Moscow’s Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas was quarantined because of an outbreak of measles at the university, wrote MSC1.ru. On April 20, students of the Moscow Polytechnic Institute were also transferred to distance learning due to an outbreak of measles.
