Russia Strikes Postal Terminal Near Kharkiv, Killing Four

Russian forces carried out a combined missile and drone strike overnight on January 13 against a Nova Poshta postal terminal in a suburb of Kharkiv, killing four people. Six others were injured with varying degrees of severity, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov reported.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES), the attack destroyed several buildings and sparked a fire covering about 500 square meters. In total, 30 people were rescued, and two were pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building.

“Emergency rescue operations and firefighting are currently ongoing. SES units are working at the scene under the constant threat of renewed enemy shelling,” the service said. Video released by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office shows extensive structural damage to the logistics center and cargo trucks destroyed by fire. Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Dmytro Yatsychenko said Russian forces used a “double-tap” tactic in the attack: first launching a ballistic missile, followed by kamikaze drones.

In addition, Russian forces attacked Kharkiv with drones overnight. One drone struck a children’s sanatorium in the city’s Shevchenkivskyi district, causing a fire, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. According to preliminary information, no one was injured. Earlier, air raid alerts were declared in most regions of Ukraine due to the launch of ballistic missiles and attack drones from Russian territory.

On the previous evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia may be preparing a new large-scale strike on the country in the near future. “Drones to exhaust air defenses and missiles. They want to take advantage of the cold,” Zelensky said. Earlier, Russian forces carried out a massive attack on Ukraine overnight on January 9, launching 36 missiles and 242 drones of various types. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia also used a medium-range ballistic missile, Oreshnik, which struck a facility in Lviv region.
