Ukrainian drones strike an oil depot, a refinery, and a chemical plant

On the night of Sunday, December 14, a drone attack caused a fire at an oil depot in the town of Uryupinsk in Russia’s Volgograd region, Governor Andrei Bocharov reported.

According to him, “as a result of falling UAV debris, a fire broke out at an oil depot” in the city. Residents of houses located near the depot were evacuated. No casualties were reported.

Astra, citing open sources, reports that the AlfaOil oil depot in Uryupinsk has 18 storage tanks. It had already been targeted by a drone attack on December 3.

In Yaroslavl, drones once again targeted the Slavneft–YANOS oil refinery, which had already been attacked on the night of December 12.

In Russia’s Krasnodar region, local residents reported explosions near the Afipsky oil refinery and damage to houses in nearby areas. The Krasnodar regional operational штаб confirmed the “falling of UAV debris at two addresses.” The fire was extinguished, and there were no casualties.

Residents of Shchyokino in the Tula region reported explosions and a fire near the Shchyokinoazot chemical plant, which had already suspended operations in the summer following an attack on the night of July 17. Tula region Governor Dmitry Milyaev wrote on Telegram that air defense forces had shot down 15 Ukrainian drones over the region, with no casualties and “no damage to infrastructure.” Shchyokinoazot is a leading producer of methanol, caprolactam, mineral fertilizers, and sulfuric acid. Over the course of the night, the Ukrainian Telegram channel Exelinova+ reported drone strikes on the Smolenskaya GRES power plant (a claim denied by regional authorities). The Telegram channel Crimean Wind reported an attack on an electrical substation in Dzhankoi in annexed Crimea (used to connect the power systems of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions) as well as an oil depot in the settlement of Bitumnoye near Simferopol.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that overnight Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 141 Ukrainian drones. The Volgograd region, where Uryupinsk is located, was not mentioned in the official report.
