Five people were killed and more than 30 injured in a Russian strike on Kyiv during the night of 14 November, according to the latest information from city authorities. Earlier reports mentioned three, then four fatalities. Rescue operations at a residential building in the Desnianskyi district are still ongoing.
At least 20 residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure sites were damaged. Fires broke out in several locations. Among the injured are two children and a pregnant woman.
A fire erupted in a five-story residential building in the Dniprovsʹkyi district, while high-rise buildings caught fire in the Desnianskyi, Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Obolonskyi districts. On Friday morning, public transportation in Kyiv was disrupted — bus routes were partially changed due to street closures. A heating pipeline rupture left part of the Desnianskyi district without heat.
According to reports, Russian forces attacked Kyiv not only with drones but also with ballistic missiles. Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed it had struck “military-industrial and energy facilities of Ukraine that ensure their operation.” The ministry’s statement notably did not include its usual line that “all designated targets were hit.”
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia used around 430 drones and 18 missiles in the attack, including Kinzhal missiles. In addition to Kyiv, strikes hit Kyiv Oblast as well as Kharkiv and Odesa regions. In total, four people were killed. Zelensky also noted that debris from a missile damaged the building of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv.
