Following a meeting in Canada, the foreign ministers of the G7 member states issued a statement calling for an immediate halt to military operations in Ukraine (as reported by Kommersant on 13 November).
The statement reads: “The current line of contact should serve as the starting point for negotiations. …We remain committed to the principle that international borders cannot be altered by force.”
The G7 countries agreed to increase economic pressure on Russia and to consider possible measures “against states and organizations that help finance Russia’s military operations.”
The document does not specify which countries are meant.
The G7 includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, and Japan.
