Russia carried out another overnight drone attack on Ukraine’s infrastructure, according to the Ukrainian military. At least 130 long-range drones were launched in the assault — one of the largest in recent weeks. The strike came shortly after the first major tightening of U.S. sanctions against the Russian economy introduced by the new administration of President Donald Trump.
As of 8:30 a.m. Kyiv time (which coincides with Moscow time), the attack was still ongoing. By that point, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported 25 drones hitting 11 targets, with debris falling in 11 different locations.
In Kyiv, seven people were injured as a result of the attack, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Fires broke out in residential buildings, and a school and kindergarten were damaged by the blast wave. In the Desnianskyi district on the city’s east side, a drone struck the 21st floor of a 24-story apartment building but did not explode. Another drone hit an unfinished building in another district, Ukrainska Pravda reported.
In Sumy, a railway station was targeted — photos from the scene suggest the maintenance depot may have been the intended target. In Kharkiv region, one person was killed and five others injured when a drone hit during firefighting operations in the Kupiansk district.
Air raid alerts were declared across several regions in the morning amid warnings of possible ballistic missile attacks.
