In recent days, drones have been observed flying over strategic and infrastructure sites in Germany. Authorities have described the incidents as a security threat and are creating a dedicated center to counter drone activity, ArbatMediareported on October 1.
According to Bild and Spiegel, in the state of Schleswig-Holstein drones were seen flying over a shipyard in Kiel, a university hospital, a power plant, the local parliament, and an oil refinery that supplies fuel to Hamburg Airport. In the state of Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania, drones were spotted over military facilities in Sanitz and Rostock. Police reported that several heavy quadcopters were flying parallel routes over the port of Rostock — a pattern that could indicate an attempt to map the area.
It remains unclear who was operating the drones. Experts note similarities between these flights and incidents in Denmark, where drone activity previously forced the shutdown of airports.
The Bundestag is preparing legislation that would allow the military to shoot down suspicious drones even outside military facilities, the UNIAN Telegram channel reported.
