Zelensky Proposes Creating a Joint Air Defense System with Europe

Ukraine would like to form a joint air defense system together with its European allies to protect against Russian threats. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this while speaking via video link at the Warsaw Security Forum.

According to Zelensky, Russian incursions into the airspace of Poland and the Baltic states demonstrate the need for collective action. “Ukraine is proposing to Poland and all our partners to create a joint, fully reliable shield against Russian aerial threats,” Zelensky emphasized.

He noted that Ukraine’s experience in countering drones and missiles could be valuable to its allies, and that joint efforts by regional countries would ensure sufficient weapon supplies and industrial capacity.

Responding to a question about the position of the United States, Zelensky stated that President Donald Trump’s current policy is “balanced and supportive of Ukraine,” while the American leader also seeks to maintain his role as a mediator in negotiations with Russia.

Zelensky also commented on Alexander Lukashenko’s claim that Russia has a “very good proposal” on Ukraine, allegedly approved by the U.S. “He lives in his own world, but sometimes [Russian President Vladimir] Putin visits that world. And there, the two of them — two rather elderly men — talk about something. So it’s hard for me to comment on what they discuss,” Zelensky said.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that no NATO member state will be left to fend for itself when facing a Russian wave of hybrid attacks.

“Russia wants to test our resolve and provoke disorder. This is dangerous, and it must be met with a clear and united response,” Wadephul said at a press conference in Warsaw.
