North Korean soldiers “made an important contribution” to the liberation of the Kursk region, according to a statement released by the Korean Central Telegraphic Agency (KCTAK). It is noted that the transfer of DPRK troops was ordered by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in accordance with the mutual defense treaty between Pyongyang and Moscow, which was concluded in June 2024.
The report also noted that the DPRK’s military actions on Russian territory “fully comply with all provisions and the spirit of the UN Charter and other international laws.”
On April 26, Valerii Gerasimov, head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, reporting on the completion of the Russian military operation in Kursk Region, recognized for the first time the participation of the DPRK military in the operation and declared their “high professionalism.”
