Investigative Committee decides whether to initiate criminal proceedings against the co-founders of the Free Russia Forum

The Interior Ministry has found “signs of crime” in the actions of Free Russia Forum co-founders Garry Kasparov and Ivan Tyutrin in connection with an auction in support of Russian volunteers fighting on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Moscow conducted a check on the application of State Duma deputy Andrei Alshevskikh. In response to the deputy, the Interior Ministry points out that “in the actions of Kasparov and Tyutrin there are signs of a crime under Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (carrying out activities of a foreign or international non-governmental organization, in respect of which a decision has been taken to recognize its activities as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation)”.

The response also informs that the materials collected on the results of the inspection were sent to the Investigative Committee for Moscow “for decision-making in accordance with the current legislation”. This probably means that a criminal case against the politicians will soon be initiated.

“The foreign agents listed in the response are united by hatred of Russia. They are accomplices of the Kyiv regime. They are trying to prolong the agony of neo-Nazis by raising funds for them. There will be no mercy for enemies,” – wrote Alshevskikh, commenting on the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to his statement.

Recall, in November 2023, the Free Russia Forum held an auction in support of Russian volunteers fighting on the side of Ukraine. The auction raised over 50 thousand euros. On these funds for the fighters was purchased transportation, communication equipment and uniforms.

The Free Russia Forum was established in 2016 in Vilnius by Garry Kasparov and Ivan Tyutrin. Both politicians left Russia in 2013. The FSR was recognized by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office as an “undesirable organization” in February of this year.
