The Russian Defense Ministry is going to “complete the formation of a reserve army” by the end of June, Defense Minister Sergeу Shoigu announced at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Security Council. The meeting is reported on the Kremlin website.
“We are forming reserves as part of the army corps, the army. Plus five regiments – in the 1st and 20th Army tank regiments. Everything is going according to plan there, in fact by the end of June we will complete the formation of the reserve army. And in the near future we will complete the formation of the army corps. Five regiments are already more than 60% complete, in this case I am talking about both personnel and equipment”, Shoigu said.
The Minister added that on average, 1,336 people are recruited per day in Russia. Every day “we get a regiment”, Shoigu said.
At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry sees no need for new volunteers for the war in Ukraine, said the head of the department. According to him, to date, 114,000 people have signed contracts with the Defense Ministry.
The new order of the Defense Ministry obliges them to sign contracts with the Defense Ministry. According to it, all “volunteer detachments” will be obliged to sign contracts with the Defense Ministry by July 1. According to the latest data, more than 20 “volunteer units”, including the Akhmat, have signed contracts with the Defense Ministry.
On January 1, 2023, Putin signed a decree increasing the number of regular army personnel up to 2 million 40 thousand people. According to this plan, the army was to be replenished with 137,000 new servicemen. Portal Ura.ru reported, citing sources, that Dmitry Medvedev is in charge of recruiting contract servicemen. He was allegedly instructed to recruit 400 thousand contract servicemen for the army by the end of the year.
