The losses in equipment that Ukraine suffers during the counterattack will be quickly overwhelmed by Kiev’s allies. On Tuesday, the U.S. will urgently allocate a new $325 million military aid package, Voice of America reporter Carla Babb writes, citing an unnamed official from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Ukraine will receive new Stryker and Bradley armored vehicles to replace those lost during the counterattack. In addition, the United States will provide ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS air defense systems. Aid will be provided through the Presidential Drawdown Authority mechanism or directly from U.S. military depots.
Ukraine lost about 17 Bradley BMPs in the first few days of the offensive. Many of the vehicles were damaged and abandoned rather than destroyed. That’s 15.5 percent of the 109 vehicles supplied by Washington. The Bradley carries up to 10 infantrymen and supports them with fire.
In addition, the AFU lost three U.S. Oshkosh wheeled armored vehicles and four German Leopard tanks, of which two were destroyed and two abandoned, according to the Dutch website Oryx, which keeps count of documented equipment losses.
