IAEA head goes to Ukraine

IAEA head Rafael Grossi has announced that he is on his way to Ukraine. He intends to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Grossi is also going to present an assistance program after the “catastrophic flooding” of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. In addition, he intends to assess the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP and rotate the agency’s experts at the plant.

The collapse of the Kakhovka HPP dam potentially threatens the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, as water from the reservoir was used to cool the reactors, which is now dwindling catastrophically.

Grossi is on his way to investigate the water situation. Among other things, the IAEA intends to gain access to a thermal power plant near the Zaporizhzhya plant.
