Greenpeace website blocked in Russia

An “unspecified state body” put the website of the environmental organization Greenpeace on the register of prohibited information. Roskomsvoboda drew attention to the entry in the registry.

According to the card, the decision to block was made on June 1, and the first blocking took place on June 2. It is not specified which state agency blocked the site of human rights defenders. RoskomSvoboda believes the Prosecutor General’s Office is behind it.

On May 19th, the Prosecutor General’s Office declared Greenpeace an “undesirable organization”. According to the agency, the environmentalists made “attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the country”, financially supported “foreign agents”, and engaged in “anti-Russian propaganda”.

On the same day, the Russian branch of Greenpeace, expressing its disagreement with the decision, announced its closure.
