The U.S. has lifted sanctions on a major Russian businessman for the first time since the war began

The U.S. Treasury Department has removed Anatoly Karachinsky, co-founder of one of Russia’s largest IT companies, IBS, from the sanctions list. This is reported on the website of the agency.
It is not known what the decision of the Ministry of Finance was related to.
As the Agency notes, Karachinsky became the first major Russian businessman to have American sanctions lifted after the start of the war in Ukraine.
Karachinsky got on the sanctions list as a member of the supervisory board of Otkritie Bank in April 2022. A few days later, he resigned from the board of directors of IBS and later sold his stake to management.
In 2021, Karachinsky was among the top 200 richest businessmen in Russia according to Forbes. Along with Karachinsky, independent director of Sovcombank Joel Lautier and the Axioma yacht, which the U.S. authorities associate with businessman Dmitry Pumpyanskiy, were also removed from the list.
