Russian Academy of Sciences member Sergei Abramov placed under house arrest for supporting ACF

On May 12 the Pereslavl district court of Yaroslavl region placed under house arrest for two months the chief researcher of the Institute of program systems named after A. K. Aylamazyan, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A.K. Aylamazyan, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 66-year-old Sergei Abramov. He is accused of financing extremism (part 1 of Art. 282.3 of the Criminal Code), the Sova Center reported in a mailing to Kasparov.Ru.
As Kommersant wrote, Andrei Zayakin was arrested in absentia in 2022 for transferring a thousand rubles to ACF. Abramov faces a similar charge.
The criminal case is being investigated by officers of the Federal Security Service. The article incriminating the scientist implies punishment in the form of a fine, forced labor or imprisonment for a period of three to eight years.
Note that Abramov is 66 years old. From 2003 till his 65th birthday Abramov headed the Institute of Program Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPS) situated in the village of Veskovo of urban district Pereslavl-Zalessky. In 2006 Abramov was awarded a government prize in science and technology for the development of supercomputers under the SKIF program of the Russian-Belarusian Union State.
Abramov was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2006. He is an author of 180 scientific works (including 5 monographs), four patents for invention and 11 certificates of state registration of computer programs.
IPS, which Abramov headed for 19 years, annually organizes the National Supercomputer Forum. The basic educational institution of IPS was the University of Pereslavl named after Aylamazyan, which was opened in 1992 and existed until 2017. The basic training center for IPS children is the International Children’s Computer Center named after Aylamazyan, a UNESCO Associated School, opened in 1986.
The IPS has five research centers (multiprocessor systems, artificial intelligence, medical informatics, control processes, system analysis), as well as a graduate school and a training and research center.
