Ground Forces Commander: Counterattack at Bakhmut is only the beginning of the offensive

The Commander-in-Chief of the AFU Ground Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, said that the Ukrainian forces continue to hold Bakhmut, and the loss of the Russian Armed Forces’ positions near the town is evidence that the AFU can conduct offensive operations in the area.
“The advance of our troops in the Bakhmut direction is the first success of offensive actions during the operation to defend Bakhmut. The last few days have shown that we can move forward and destroy the enemy even in such super difficult conditions”, Syrsky said in a statement published in the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense Media Center.
Earlier, the founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that the Ukrainian forces managed to regain control of part of the territory on the flanks of the Bakhmut section of the front. The return of this bridgehead makes it easier to deliver Ukrainian reinforcements and ammunition to Bakhmut. According to Prigozhin, it was not his fighters who acted on the flanks near Bakhmut, but units of the regular Russian army, which, according to the head of the Wagner PMC, fled the battlefield.
On Friday, Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said that the Ukrainian military had advanced 2 km in the Bakhmut direction. The Russian Defense Ministry did not comment on this information.
