The Free Russia Forum strongly condemns the agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to supply the U.S. with Russian diesel, and the American administration’s decision to ease sanctions against Putin’s Russia.
We call on the American people and the U.S. Congress to look out for America’s own security interests, prevent sanctions against Russia from being weakened, and ultimately tighten them further to prevent the Putin regime from continuing to threaten the world.
As people who held senior positions in Russia’s government, parliament, politics, and media. We are well aware of what the current Russian authorities represent, and of their true motives and plans. Their goal is to destroy the free world and its main flagship, the United States. The aggression against Ukraine is only part of this plan–an initial attack.
This proposed deal with Putin is a betrayal not only of Ukraine, which is fighting against Putin’s aggression, but also of the national interests of the United States. It is an action that poses a direct threat to the national security of your great country. For Putin’s Russia, the United States remains the main enemy, its adversary number one. Ultimately, the money Putin earns from the lifting of sanctions will be used not only against Ukraine or Europe, but against the United States itself.
The deal struck by President Trump opens up new opportunities for the Kremlin to generate revenue, which can be used to continue the bloody war against Ukraine and the hybrid war against the Western world. Instead of engaging in a campaign of maximum pressure on the aggressor state, the Trump administration is effectively offering the Putin regime a lifeline to overcome the consequences of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refining infrastructure.
The best case scenario for this deal is that President Trump is trading America’s long-term economic and security interests in return for minimal short-term economic gains. The more likely scenario is that this agreement won’t even offer those short-term benefits. In other words, if this deal goes into effect, the Kremlin will have outmaneuvered the White House and received American help to expand its efforts to drench peaceful Ukrainian cities in blood and support Iran’s war against America.
As Russian patriots, it’s important for us to emphasize that Ukraine’s victory is critical to ensure the security of the Western world, including the United States. And so long as Putin’s regime survives, the security and prosperity of the US and the West will always be under threat.
With great respect for America’s democracy, we strongly support the bipartisan Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act and urge the U.S. Congress to demonstrate its resolve to the world by passing it quickly.
