Last night, Russia committed yet another bloody crime. By launching a barbaric missile-and-drone strike on residential districts of the Ukrainian capital, the occupiers killed six civilians and wounded dozens more, including children. The strikes hit densely populated areas of Kyiv, where people were asleep in their homes at that hour. In addition to the attack on Kyiv, the Russian army struck other Ukrainian cities as well.
The killing of Ukrainian civilians is a deliberate and calculated tactic of the occupiers, intended to demonstrate to the entire world its powerlessness in the face of barbarism. This is cold-blooded terror through which the Russian regime seeks to break the resistance of Ukrainians and paralyze the political will of free nations.
There should be no illusions: this is not a “Russian-Ukrainian conflict.” This is a war waged by Putin’s brutalized Russia to overturn the foundations of the entire international order. Today Ukraine is fighting and shedding blood — tomorrow the war may come to the homes of all Europeans. The free world can no longer afford displays of helplessness in the face of evil. A cancerous tumor cannot be talked away — it must be removed as soon as possible.
We call on Western countries — above all the United States and Germany — to put an end to the atrocities committed by the Russian occupiers by providing Ukraine with the most advanced and effective weapons, including long-range missiles capable of destroying military targets deep inside Russian territory. Any delay, any ambiguity on this issue, and any attempt to appease the aggressor will only embolden him to commit new crimes. Only the total military defeat of Russia can protect Ukrainians and prevent NATO countries from facing war on their own territory.
